12 Days of Christmas

This year, I wanted to start a new tradition in my family.  I wanted my children to be excited for all the stuff that we do as a family, and take the focus off from all the presents.  Jeff and I planned an activity to do with the family, for the 12 days of Christmas.  We had a blast doing it, and hopefully we made some great memories for our kids.
We took some pictures of the things that we did along the way.  On the first day of Christmas, we took treats to our neighbors.
Also, on the first day, we hung our new ornament.  Every year since I have been married to Jeff, I have bought an ornament for that year.  This year we got a Mickey Mouse ornament, to remind us of our trip to Disneyland during the summer.
Another activity we did, was have hot chocolate with cookie straws. We made cookie straws out of the grasshopper cookies.  You bite both ends of the cookie off, then suck the hot chocolate through.  They you pop the cookie in your mouth.  It is really yummy, and our kids LOVE it!   Harley got a brand new mug because this year she is big enough to have hot chocolate.
Here is Houston reading the daily activity.

We made Christmas chains, to count down the days to Christmas.

One of my favorite activites was going to Salt Lake, and seeing the lights.  We went with our good friends the Gunnels.  We had hot chocolate and doughnuts.  It would have been the perfect evening, except that we happened to go the same night that David Archuleta was perfroming.  Needless to say, parking was a nightmare!

We tried our hand at the Nativity this year.  It was crazy a chaotic, but the kids looked so cute in their costumes!

Gingerbread houses was another favorite of out families.
Harley really got into decorating her house. (and eating it too)
It turned out to be a great experience!  We had something planned every night (even if it was just a movie) and our kids became more excited about what we were going to do that night, instead of new ideas of what they wanted for Christmas.  It brought our family close together.
